They Went Which-A-Way?

Here's the thing about blogs--I love writing mine, but even more, I love reading the blogs of others. I am offered interesting, if brief and narrow, glimpses into the lives of those very different from myself--people who are younger, richer, older, more settled, well-traveled, less sensible, much smarter, of different genders and races, whatever.

So, I take it badly when writer leaves the blogosphere. I want more!

Sadly, not everyone cares what Grace wants.

Hence--a new clean-up of my Blogroll.

I have trouble believing that Morrison can actually stay away for long, but I have eliminated "All Doors Considered" until she changes her mind.

Julie from "Beside Still Waters" has left for the second time. Too bad. I like the perspective of someone forced into retirement too early who is struggling with the financial consequences.

Karissa from "Keeping It Seriously Simple" has the best reason to stop blogging--she paid off all of her debt, which was the reason she started her blog in the first place. You go, Girl!

"Blogging Away Debt" is here, but with a new blogger, Claire. Her financial situation is different from Beks, but still compelling.

"Living Almost Large" is gone, though its author still comments on various financial blogs. Ditto Dog from "The Dog Ate My Finances."

Master Po from "The Po File" has posted what he says is his final post. He has, however, left his blog up, which I appreciate. I'm curious why other folks don't. Still, unless I hear he's coming back, I'm deleting him from blogroll.

Judy, formerly of "Poor But Happy" got hacked, but is back at a different location with a new name, "Finally Frugal and Happy."

Some bloggers definitely seem to be losing steam. One of the first blogs I found was Jane Dough's "Boston Gal's Open Wallet" but her posts have become increasingly sporadic. Her most recent post was last November. Still that puts her ahead of "Debt Hater", who was all set to get married and hasn't blogged since. Shouldn't the honeymoon be over by now? And what about "Sistah Ant"? She became a lawyer, got married, and found a job. Shouldn't that give her enough to blog about, but her last post was in September.

Neither "M Is For Money" nor "Oh, My Aching Debts" have posted in over six months, so off my list they go.

Hmm--Now I need replacements.

Suggestions, anyone?

I've lost my blogging mojo for now, but I'm sure it will come back. I'm not even close to retiring and losing all the cool people I've met! Keep me on, Grace....

I could never leave you you were the first person to ever read my blog

Yes, they do come and go don't they. I had neglected cleaning mine up until I found out you can't subscribe to more than 300 blogs. I had to go through them all, one by one to see who was still blogging......still not finished but at least I made room for some new ones!

Ooh! Thanks for doing this! And for tracking down poor but happy's new blog. :)

How about femmefrugality? One I've been enjoying recently via oilandgarlic is min hus-- her book club of YMoYL is pretty awesome.

Well, I'm Losing It Here would be honored to be on your blogroll! We're on track here at Casa Losing It to get rid of all of our debt (other than our car loan) by next year and move on to retirement, albeit with three teenagers still at home. We're also seriously considering a relocation to Hawaii in two years if it can be done on our retirement income.

Love your blog - I'm a regular reader from Finally Frugal and Happy!

After 5 years of blogging, which, to me, was a thankless (unpaid) job, I have moved onto greener (literally) pastures. I will no longer write for free. But I am thankful and grateful that my blogging opened monetary doors for me.

I get way more respect working & writing for a popular newspaper. (this is my 2nd one) Anonymous comments are prohibited. You have to announce yourself through your Facebook account. You'd be amazed at how civil people are when they are forced to use their own name. (Not that I ever did) :)

Blogging really is out the door (pardon the pun) and almost obsolete. Having a Facebook timeline page with a corresponding twitter account is fast and informative. You can follow and personally tweet with almost anyone in the world, directly.

I'm happy at my new position and direction my life has taken. It's as if I reinvented myself. My past, however, is just that: past.

Good luck to you Grace. Hope your retirement goes well. I am still reading your blog, as others, and will comment from time to come.

Cheers & regards,
Morrison

Considering you inspired me to start my own blog as I look with trepidation into retirement, you can look at mine. :) I'm just beginning, and there's a crafty flavor, but it would be nice to have someone besides my family and friends reading it, lol.

I just started up again. I used to blog mostly about frugal stuff, but now I blog about about my other interests , including, but not limited to, frugal stuff. All the old frugal stuff is still there, though.

P.S. I saw Morrison comment on another blog. I think she is still blogging but getting paid for it now.

I am going to put it back up in a bit.

Here are some blogs that I like; but they do not revolve around getting out of debt. They are all excellent writers, although most of them do not post on a daily basis.

Since I'm already on your blogroll and you are on mine we are still good to go.

I combine what feels to me the best of both worlds: blogging for free while getting paid to write for other places.

I have an unofficial policy of cleaning out my blogroll if someone doesn't post fresh material at least once every 3 weeks. There are so many interesting blogs that I like to help expose new folks and their thoughts to a wider audience.

Grace, I also hate it when some bloggers just leave us hanging. I disagree with the comment that blogging is becoming obsolete. To the contrary, I discover new ones every day. I think Facebook is losing steam, especially with the privacy issues of late. A new, more popular site is Pinterest.com. I could spend waaaaay to much time on it. Basically, you follow your interests, instead of people. Check it out.

Just starting over with a new blog about my life moving towards retirement and have been enjoying reading yours the last couple of weeks. I too found it hard when favourite bloggers left. I felt a loss as they had become friends. But I have found a bunch more to keep me happy. Come say hi if you like at http://www.restofourdays.com/

thanks for the round up Grace. I loved sistah ants blog and I was dissapointed to see Fabulously Broke sold hers, but I can see why she did.
Fortunately new bloggers keep popping up.

I'm going to be checking out your blogroll and some of the comments from this post - I find it hard sometimes to find blogs I can relate to. I like the idea of streamlining and cutting loose those who don't post often. I've only lost one blogging friend and she recently started up again, thankfully.

I understand that sometimes a bloggers' blogging runs its course and life inserts other priorities. But I really really appreciate it when a blogger who is leaving the blogging community posts and at least gives me reason to think they are going to be okay. Sudden disappearances make me concerned about what might be happening to them.

Sometimes life gets in the way and I need to take a short break. I also dont think blogging is obsolete. Heck, I get more quilting customers from my quilting and frugal blogs than from my facebook pages.

I actually need to update my blog roll with lots of new faces.

Hi Grace...do you know if Judy got hacked again? Noticed her blog was gone. I hope not...she is so funny and a great read!

Hi Grace, I love that you're updating your blogroll. I haven't visited you or Morrison since around Valentine's Day or thereabouts. I am sorry to hear that Morrison has signed off, but like you, I hope it's only temporary. Another blog I follow daily is "The Frugal Girl". Not a retirement blog, but I find her to be gracefully grateful, something you two have in common.

DebtHater is still around on Twitter, at least, so we keep in touch. Just so you know she's ok. She's just really busy.

I am over at Debt Free by 50, in the beginning of my frugal journey. Love your blog but I am terrible about commenting! Would love for you to include me in your list if you want to follow me.

OK--I added "Debt Free by 50" to my blogroll. Sigh. I was 50 before I even started saving for retirement, so you're way ahead of me.

I also love reading the blogs of people I find truly interesting. Specially those living alternative lifestyles. There was this lady from Canada who blogged about her personal life. She had a way with words and she got me hooked. In her last entry she talked about moving to China to start a new life there as an English instructor and then nothing. It has been years and sometimes she would enter my head. I would wonder about what happened to her.

I've been reading and enjoying your blog for a while now. I've been a bit slack at commenting sorry but will try to improve. I'm in the process of cleaning up my blogroll too. You were in my Google Reader but not my blogroll, but I've fixed that now:)
